EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC, Directed by John Boorman, Starring Linda Blair, Richard Burton, Max von Sydow, James Earl Jones
I sat down to write about watching American Graffiti… and then I realized I had completely blanked about watching this.
So, this article is a few weeks late. For that I apologize. Mildly. Life happens, and so, movies can’t always be watched. But enough with that.
This movie is boring.
Boring.
This is Linda Blair. She is honestly the only appealing thing about watching Exorcist II: The Heretic. Her acting is great, and you buy the progression of her from the original to this film.
And it’s almost like John Boorman had a psychic revelation and predicted the Star Wars prequels. He gives reason to Regan’s possession in the first film. He Anakin Skywalker’s her, if I have to get down to brass tacks. He takes everything that legitimately makes the first Exorcist film scary, and craps all over it.
And it’s boring.
This was a slog of a f**king movie to make it through.
And I still have Damien: Omen II to write about…
I honestly want to write more about the film. I almost have a feeling that someone will take me to task for not going the extra mile. But it’s not worth it. Sure, this is a Boorman film, so it’s well shot. But that is all it has going for.
Sorry.
RECOMMENDATION: AVOID
I have watched it exactly once. There are those who count it as brilliant. I do not. I agree with your synopsis. Perhaps some day I will try to view it again. Then again, maybe not.
